Bluedot vs Jamie vs Otter Meeting Notes in 2026
I have worked in IT for about twenty years, and every few months someone I know asks me which AI resume builder to use. My answer starts with a boring point. A resume is a file that software reads before a person does, so the layout, the file format and the honesty of every line matter more than the logo of the tool. This guide follows the searches people run next on Google (free, ATS-friendly, job description, ChatGPT, Canva) and gives one clear answer for each, using what the vendors publish and what outside reviewers wrote.

ResumeFast, which sells its own builder, described three kinds of "free" in its guide updated October 6, 2026: free to try, free to build but paid to download, and free to download. Its checks of the vendors' own pages in October 2026 put Rezi, Teal and Canva among the plans that give AI writing help and a downloadable file without paying. Treat that as a competitor's summary and confirm on each pricing page.
The Rezi pricing page shows the Free plan as $0 with one resume, one AI interview, three PDF downloads, standard-format templates, an AI resume writer and an AI resume editor. Paid is Pro at $29 a month, or a Lifetime plan at $149, and the page says all plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Resume.io is the opposite example. Its pricing page lists a free plan with one resume and one cover letter, but downloads only in TXT format. A PDF needs a paid plan, which the page shows as a 7-day trial that renews at $29.95 every four weeks, or $49.95 billed every three months.
Kickresume sells its AI writer and ATS checker in the paid plans. Its pricing page lists a Yearly plan at $8 a month (billed $96 every 12 months) and a Quarterly plan at $18 a month (billed $54 every three months), with 40+ resume templates, 40+ cover letter templates, the AI Writer, an ATS Resume Checker, LinkedIn and PDF import and iOS and Android apps. Zapier lists a free plan without AI features and $24 a month on monthly billing. ResumeFast says the free plan has four basic templates and downloads, and that the AI Writer is Premium.
Teal is the one Zapier names for tracking several applications at once. Zapier says it has a good set of text-based templates and a scoring system that helps match your background to a job, and that Teal does not say it optimizes for ATS. ResumeFast reports 10 free AI credits for bullets. Zapier's list of other picks includes Resume.io, Kickresume, Resume Worded, ResumeNerd and Jobscan.
Rezi if you want AI help with a PDF at no cost. Kickresume if you will pay a modest yearly price for templates and an ATS checker. Teal if the job search itself is the project. Skip any plan that auto-renews unless you set a reminder, because several vendors renew a short trial at a higher price.
Kickresume markets an ATS Resume Checker, and Zapier says it runs more than 20 ATS checks. Zety describes its builder as ATS-focused, and its page shows a short ATS-Focused badge next to its AI tools. Vendors define this term for themselves, so a score from one tool is not a guarantee about any employer's system.
The practical test is simple. ResumeFast notes that text boxes in two columns can come out of an applicant tracking system in the wrong order, and suggests pasting the text from your exported PDF into a plain document. If it reads top to bottom in the right order, the layout is likely fine. The same guide says single-column templates are the safer choice for online applications and that a design-heavy file suits a person you hand it to.
This is the most useful AI feature and the one most often paid. ResumeFast describes job-post tailoring as a tool that compares your resume with a specific description and tells you what is missing, and says this is usually paid. Zapier's guide lists Jobscan for optimizing a CV for ATS, with a free plan that covers five scans on signup and five more each month, and it lists Resume.io for job matching.
The sensible way to use any of them is to treat the suggestions as a checklist of what the posting asks for. Add a keyword only where it is true. If the posting asks for a skill you do not have, the honest answer is a line about what you are learning, not a claim you cannot back up in an interview.
ChatGPT can draft bullets, rewrite a summary and shorten a long paragraph. What it does not do is build a layout or check how the file reads in an ATS, so many people paste the result into a template tool. Zapier's guide mentions that idea and compares it with dedicated builders.
Whichever you use, check every line it writes. A language model can add a metric, a tool or a job title you never held, and a recruiter or a background check will find it. Give the model your real facts and ask it to rewrite, not to invent.
Canva lists resume templates in its free plan, and ResumeFast, citing Canva's pricing page, says the free plan includes up to 20 AI uses. Canva is a design tool, so it is flexible and good for a resume you hand to a person. The same guide warns that multi-column layouts can read out of order in an ATS. Confirm the free limits on Canva's pricing page.
Enhancv sits closer to Canva in style. Its pricing page title says plans start at $16.50 and that there is a 7-day free plan, and the Tealhq guide (checkout reviewed September 14, 2026) reports a 7-day trial at $2.95 and then $29.95 every four weeks. The Enhancv free plan keeps its branding and limits the resume to 12 section items, according to the same guide, which is written by a competitor.
Google shows Reddit threads for this search. When you read them, look for posters who say their field, level and country, and for advice that you can check against the vendor's pricing page. Forum posts about billing are useful as warnings. Zapier's guide notes that auto-renewal complaints are common for ResumeNerd, so look at billing dates there.
Three of the builders in this guide were cited by more than one outside source: Teal (Zapier and ResumeFast), Kickresume (Zapier, Tealhq and ResumeFast) and Resume.io (Zapier and the vendor's own page).
The vendors' own pages show how common short trials are. Zety lists a 14-day trial for $1.95 that renews at $25.95 every four weeks, or an annual plan at $5.95 a month billed $71.40 at once. Resume.io lists a 7-day trial that renews at $29.95 every four weeks. Put the cancel date in your calendar the day you start.
Job searching also attracts scams. The FTC's job scams page warns about fake job ads and fake check schemes, and it says that if someone asks you to pay to get a job, that is a scam. A resume service is a different thing, but never pay a person who offers you a job in return for a fee.

Prices are as shown on the vendor pages or in the dated sources named in this guide, read October 25, 2026. They change often, so check each page before you pay.
Some plans let you build and download for free with limits. Rezi lists a $0 plan with an AI writer and three PDF downloads, while Resume.io lists a free plan that downloads only as TXT. Read the download limits first.
No tool can promise that. ResumeFast says multi-column layouts can come out in the wrong order, so test your exported PDF by pasting its text into a plain document and reading it.
You can use it to rewrite and tighten your own facts, but you must check every line because a language model can add details you never had. It also does not give you a finished layout.
Keep one master resume, then adjust a copy to match the posting wherever the match is true. Job description tools can help you spot what the posting asks for.
Using AI to improve wording is common, but the content must be yours and accurate. Never add experience, degrees, tools or results you cannot explain in an interview.
